The story of Chappan Bhog:-
In order to save the people of Braj from the wrath of Indra, when Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan mountain, he had to starve for seven consecutive days. After this, 56 dishes were fed to them for seven days and eight hours. It is believed that since then this ’56 Bhog’ tradition started.
Story of Chappan Bhog-2:-
In Gau Lok, Shri Krishna and Radha sit on a divine lotus. That lotus has 56 petals in three layers. On each petal there is a prominent Sakhi and in the middle the Lord sits. Therefore 56 bhog is offered.
